Про СТАТУС ЗАВЕРШЕНИЯ программы, резюмирую. Программа завершается с каким-то СТАТУСОМ, например удачно (тогда мы говорим что у неё успешный/удачный статус завершения), или неудачно (неуспешный/неудачный статус завершения), или частично успешно. Другая программа может об этом узнать, посмотрев КОД ЗАВЕРШЕНИЯ (exit code) программы, который как правило ассоциируется с тем или иным статусом. Обычно 0 соответствует удачному статусу завершению программы, а значение отличное от нуля -- неудачному. Но это обычно, и не является правилом, потому что не все программы укладываются только в два состояния -- получилось / не получилось. Кроме того, пора наконец понять ;-), что в разделе EXIT STATUS речь идёт не только о кодах завершения, но и о статусе работы программы как таковом (см. выше), и чаще всего документируется, какому статусу какой код соответствует.
